Katie and I have taken quite a few road trips together: DC to Spokane, Spokane to LA, and of course lots of them from Spokane to Seattle. Our most recent adventure prompted me to think about why I love em so much!
1. Crop Signs on Fence Lines along I-90. Makes me so happy to know what's growing beside the freeway!
2. Learning new skills, such as driving over mountain passes through raging snowstorms or hurricane force winds.
3. She shares my obsession for someday eating at a Bob Evans restaurant.
4. She brings her IPod, and is a good sport about letting me listen to stuff I like rather than the stuff she likes that I've never heard of. And she never complains when I sing along, even though I am tone deaf.
5. She always has the latest podcasts from Ricky Gervais.
6. She's an excellent driver, so I can relax when she's behind the wheel. And she hardly ever tries to grab the steering wheel when I'm driving :-)
7. She doesn't really have to stop and pee all that often.
8. She only grumbles a tiny bit when I insist on stopping at a thrift store.
9. She doesn't yak incessantly. In fact, she mostly plays with her Blackberry so I hardly even know she's there.
10. She invites me to come along! As a mom, this is quite an honor and a joy.
Of course, I also love to travel with Peeps, Cara and Tony. But don't get to do that as often. Where is our next destination, Katie? I'm ready!

Glad you two had fun and made it over the pass safely. Hopefully, I'll be on the next roadtrip with you!
i miss all the fun road trips together! although, since i cant do any reading or anything i the car i kinda hate people that never talk in the car!!
ps--did you hear that dad trained naomi watts in driving, hand to hand combat and shooting today? there are good things that happen in virginia!!
oh, i forgot, you would never want to eat at a bob evans!! i think it;s below old country buffet
we love it that you and Katie like to travel together too, cuz we get to see you one "our" side. It is the best when your kids want you along.
we need the deets on the celebrity connection, Cara!
oh and we KNOW Bob Evans would be hideous, we just feel it's on our 'to do' list. We survived Cracker Barrel after all.
i have never seen crop signs and always want to know what is growing out there
Katie told me about that last night, Cara. Naomi is so wasted on dad (or he's the perfect person to do it...), he had absolutely no idea who she was mom, other then that she was famous. He thought maybe she was a model. Still, it's cool. Does that mean he has officially seen more famous people then Katie now (counting his dinner with the NxNW clients)?
BZ- when are you and Megan making the infamous trip this way?
he's such a dunce. Guess that DOES make him perfect for training a movie star, no way he would be impressed, bc she is probably super skinny and not gorgeous without the ton of slap on her face.
actually he said she was beautiful, and he was suprised b/c she had no makeup and just wore jeans and a sweatshirt. mind u her jeans were probably like $500 but whatever. he said she was very nice and nothing like what he expected a movie star to act like. of course, i had to tell him the night before he trained her who she was. it was totally lost on him!! such a waste.
wow, i love your road trip list Mom! and i was actually surprised to see what you thought of certain things... like the fact that we don't yak the whole way (cuz i kinda love that too, it's like when you go get your haircut and the stylist talks your ear off - annoying), and i figured you'd hate that i always sing along so we are even there! we are apparently road-trip soulmates, cuz it's never boring, even when i'm obsessed with my phone or you are madly trying to knit a certain birthday girl her hat!
and Dad meeting Naomi Watts totally made my day the other day... such a goober.
we ARE the perfect r-t pals, Katie, we need to go on another soon! And let us know when the Goober trains Brad Pitt or Hugh Jackman would ya?
Okay, you two were meant to be...so come over every weekend. And Kate-o, so with you about the stylist. I once had a massage guy yacking and politely told him, when he asked what would make this more comfortable, you being quiet!
anytime AFTER the middle of April P, we'll get it on the books, as we must book cabin/knitting weekend.
that is the main reason I have long hair, bc I am pathologically unable to carry on a conversation with a stylist.
