So Pia and I were watching TV and an ad for "Water for Elephants" came on. I tried to read that book and I pretty much hated it. Pia asked why and I told here that "I hate the circus genre". Well, that led to a lot of questions as to what exactly was included in the "circus genre".
Here's my list:
- Dumbo
- Toby Tyler (Susna, you will be the only other reader who remembers this one)
- Big Top Pee-Wee
- a Charlie Chaplin movie called "The Circus"
- anything with midgets or clowns
- Cecil B. De Mille's "The Greatest Show on Earth"
I have kind of run dry so am open to more for my list so I can lay this debate to rest.

I object to your "anything with midgets and clowns" as that would mean that movies such as Willow are demoted to circus genre. Totally unacceptable. I also want it on record that you could only come up with Dumbo and Toby Tyler...Katie gave you Big Top Pee Wee when you tonight. Just saying.
Yeah. Bad list. I loved that book.
There is no dicussion here People - Lavs is absolutely correct.
I knew you'd have my back Susna. This is why we are going to be perfect roomies in the home.
don't you know it Bertie!
So would 'The World According to Garp'...and that's probably one of the best books of all time. Try again.
I love Garp too. There's no circus in that book is there? Or clowns? Or little people?
no - there were bears who performed and Vienna -
yes there were circus connotations, thought it was an odd part of the book but so loved Garp
oh yeah, I remember now. But it was a Viennese circus so I don't count it.
